You train them not to bark. I don't recommend those anti-barking machines though. They bother me more than the dogs. I would however recommend getting an empty soda can and putting some pennies or whatnot in it. You seal the top of the can with some tape, and every time the dog barks you shake it until they stop. You want your dog to connect his barking with the "bad" noise.
There are a number of things dog owners can do to at least reduce if not stop their pet from barking excessively. One is to take the dog away from the trigger, if he barks at passersby at the window, move him to another room. Ignore the dog when barking as he may like the attention he gets, and teach the dog a quiet command. The Humane Society website has more ideas.
Try to determine the cause of his barking. Is he looking out a window and barking at traffic or passing neighbors? If so, cover the window. If he's barking because of separation anxiety/loneliness and you aren't able to allow him to sleep in your room, try leaving a small radio or tv on for him so he doesn't feel so alone. You may also want to give him one of your old t-shirts that has your smell on it. Sometimes having something that smells like their owner to curl up with calms them down.
BECAUSE YOU LET HIM!
Make sure you have them in an area that's as dark as possible. Even a streetlight will keep them going. Or if you visit them at night with a flashlight. That will get them going as well.
The Kinks
Put all of the bricks away and tell your dog to stop barking by giving him a treat when he does stop barking.
If you sleep all day, it's pretty obvious why you can't sleep at night. But if you're tired all day but can't sleep at night, you probably have insomnia which is a symptom, not a complete disease.

The most humane way to control your dog's bark is by placing a system outside near where your dog barks the most. It comes in the shape of a birdhouse and will emit a high pitched sound, only your dog can hear, when they bark. You can purchase them for $40. There are four different types of dog barks that can all be controlled in a humane way. Anxiety barking, when your dog barks at every noise at home, can be fixed by making your dog's environment more comfortable. If your dog barks at the window constantly, create a room with a TV or toys in it. When you get home and your dog is barking, take him to the room until he calms down. Reward him for listening. The territorial bark can be controlled by implementing a "stop" command, Reward him if he listens. Attention barking can be controlled by putting your dog in timeout and ignoring him. When he stops you can reward him. Boredom barking can be fixed by creative feeding patterns and new toys.
The easiest option for you would be to by a bark collar. They are offered for a range of prices. They emit a smell, noise, or slight electric shock as soon as a dog barks to discourage a dog form barking. All three are annoying to the dogs, but none of them hurt the dog.
What you can do is whenever you enter a room with your dog, give it a good amount of praise or treats. This way, it will want to be happy with you and expect you with a wagging tail all the time.
