I've had several fosters from puppy-mills, who had to have all their teeth pulled. There were no bad after effects, other than their tongues hanging out. This occurs because teeth keep the tongue inside the mouth and centered.
In one instance, however...one dog quit eating after a few years of her tongue hanging out of her mouth. We believe that the exposed part of the tongue has lost taste buds due to constant exposure to the air. Our theory is that food no longer tastes good, or tastes like anything at all.
This is only a theory. We took her to the vet to rule out any other physical problems, and that's all we could ultimately come up with as a cause.
She will eat one or two bites right now, but not much more than that. Consequently, she's losing about a pound every other week. I don't know how much longer this can continue without her becoming sick & weak. That's all I know.

the age of 13 is GREAT for a dog to live to! depending on which dog you have, there is a set age they should live at if they have a happy, healthy life. but anyway, 13 is a great age for a dog to live at, but if they live for any longer, good on them!
