If you feed to much fruits and vegetables they will have an upset stomache. your hamster had diarrhea which is also called "wet tail". My guess, probably something your hamster ate, but you should take it to the vet.

Your 5 year old brother wants a pet hamster is that a good pet for him?

A hamster would make a great pet. There needs to be parental supervision. He will learn a lot. hamster's are great!!! i had one myself!!!! but if He wants one that he can handle more, you probably want a pet rat (female), they are VERY sweet, and they will sit on your shoulder all day!! :) sorry, but i say no!!!!!!! if they escape and get lost od die, which happenes easy, he would be sooooo sad!! i have 6 year old twin brothers, and if a fish dies, they cry for a long time!!!!! plus, its hard to hold, who knows what their temper will be, and if the bedding is in the cage to long, it smells!! i have a hampster!! good luck!! - jona i disagree with jona, i had a hamster myself that escaped quite often no matter how hard i tried to keep it contained and it still survived. it finally passed from old age. just make sure that he can be good with handling it and a lot of hamsters when are handled first may try to and likely succed at biting you. just give the hamster a few days to get used to him and all should go well. supervise that he feeds and handles correctly with the hamster. you might want to get the hamster a wheel as well for it to exercise and something to knaw its teeth on because (i know this sounds gross but its true!) their teeth will grow up into its brain and kill it. that's what the pet shop owner told me. hope this helps and good luck! -sj i also dissagree with jona ive got two hamsters and there really cute but don't get dwarf hamsters ya sure they don't get wettail but they are really mean!-Jim

How do you treat dry skin on a hamster?

The first thing I would do it move him away from the heater. They are very comfortable at about 65-68 degrees up to 70 or so..., away from direct heat, sunlight and drafts. Part of it could be age. Be very careful about adding any oils or fresh veggies/fruit to his diet, it could trigger wettail. I would take away any corn or corn products in his diet, these elevate body temp and cause itching. If you want to get him more essential oils, add a few more sunflower seeds or flax seed to his diet. IF you add more fresh veggies, do it in very small bits, like the amount you can pinch between your finger and thumb. You could do the same with some scrambled eggs, this is adding protein and some healthy fat. Rubbing oil into his coat, he will lick it off and ingest some of it, so I dont reco

What diseases do teddy bear hamsters carry?

Hmm, there must be quite a few, but there's wettail, and i don't know the name of this one; but your hamster has a sickness, nothing that serious though, if he sleeps day and night, keeps his ears down, and is always itching himself. You should google that, im sure there's alot!

My dwarf hamster is losing lots of weight but it still runs on the wheel she is beginning to sleep more too. she's not eating either. what's wrong with her?

Try to give her treats she likes (yodips, etc. make sure their not hard they like to eat soft things that have a good taste like hunny, yogurt Etc) And feed her/him their normal food daily (give her some washes friuts and vegtables too) WASHED! MAKE SURE THEIR NOT.... ~oranges ~dragonfriut ~ OR ANYTHING CITRUS! ITS POISONESS TO THEM IT WILL KILL THEM!!!!!! anyways... take away her wheel for a couple of days And get her some wet tail drops and give them to her daily like it says on the bottle, she probably has wettail! if this doesn't help you might want to bring her to a vet(but their not cheap and its JUST a hamster but you might want to think about that because its really not worth it. Most hamster only live two years (unless yours is a baby) then try your best and only give her/him water with the wettail drops (if she has any chew toys put it on them) GOOD LUCK! I HOPE BEST THINGS WILL HAPPEN!

How do you get a hamster?

You can get a hamster at pretty much every pet store. If you can't find one there, try looking up local hamster breeders, and you might find one there. If not there, try looking to see if anyone is trying to sell one. or just go to petco , petsmart but if you want a hamster or rabbit or mice or rats or owter then don't go to wetland don't get any thing for Poland that people pet pickup or any thaing like that becuz my sis got 4 hamsters from there and they died 1day or 2 days later becuz they got wettail witch they can get for pepoles hands anyways mostlikely goto petco or petsmart but you can get dogs from petland they don't get sick as easily from people! THE END! TIP:never ever get a pet that is small or big from someone that dosent have permisin to sell them pet if they are like bros-ed or injured then get them back to hearth and be care ful with them!

How much banana can a hamster eat in a day?

DWARF & SYRIAN HAMSTERS: no more than "1" sugar cube worth per day of fruits (25% or 1/4 of that would be the serving of a "snack" to a dwarf hamster, so that would be the amount of banana I give mine, I have 11 hamsters (10 dwarfs and 1 Syrian) and my Syrian just had 33 pups, so far all doing great no deaths, and for newborn pups I don't recommend more than 1/4 piece per hamster pup (to ensure if you have more than 1 hamster per cage to not over eat? Wait until your hamster just wakes up from a nap, and hold the dish containing the fruit in front of each hamster (their cheek pouch can hold wet and dry foods and are capable of washing out their cheeks) so yeah hold until each takes their share of the fruit! Veggies? Dwarfs 1/2 a cube worth of cucumber is fine, they won't get wet tail ok! Don't listen to ppl who say lettuce will cause WETTAIL I give mine lettuce whole pieces every day! No hamsters ever gotten WETTAIL! Wet tail is a combo of STRESS, TOO MUCH HIGH WATER CONTENT FOODS "and" DIRTY ENVIRONMENTS.... Not just from lettuce! U can feed all fresh foods just no more than 1 cube of fruit cuz fruits have a lot of sugar!! And veggies it's up to 1 cube is fine, cucumber u can actually give 2mm slice, or a 3mm slice of Mini cucumber!

My hamster's has hiccups for two days is something wrong?

"My hamsters doing the same thing! He keeps making squeaking hiccupy noises and won't drink unless encouraged and wont eat at all! Get him checked out by a vet and check for the common illnesses- wettail, gastronitus, cold, also check how fast hes eating that might be the cause." I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but both your hamsters are probably dying from a disease that's fairly common in small rodents, mainly rats, called Mycoplasma. Hamsters or rats can't burp, nor can they hiccup, although it may look like that's what they're doing, they're actually "choking" for lack of a better term. Mycoplasma is a bacteria that is resistant to almost all common antibiotics, because it does not have a cell wall. But hey, what do i know, I'm just a rat breeder. Hope this helps (as much as it can)

How do you handle baby Syrian hamsters for the first time?

Be VERY patient with it. When you first buy it leave it for the night to settle because too much stress can cause illness (wettail etc). The next evening don't wake the hammy (lets say hes called bob) dont wake bob because he is still settling in. Wait until hes woken up and then change or fill up bobs food so he knows you wont hurt him (unless hes paranoid) then rest your hand on the floor of the cage most likely- He will sniff your hand He will climb on it If its mating he might do something else He will bite it If he bites you you will wanna kill him cos trust me it hurts but be calm and give him a treat then get your hand out the cage and then you can go ow. Anyway do the same routine every night adding on another activity- Night 3- Very gently stroke him with one of your fingers on his back. Give him a treat and say "good (hamsters name here)" like hes a dog. Night 4- Now tonight be very brave, do all the above and then scoop your hands around him and lift him out the cage (be near the cage in case he jumps) stroke and comfort him (sorry he cant comfort u) then after about a minute put him back then do the same after routine. Night 5- Tonights the hamster ball! Okay not a dance ball a hamster ball get one here- http://www.google.co.uk/products?sourceid=navclient&hl=en-GB&rlz=1T4SNYK_en-GBGB319GB298&q=hamster+ball&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=t_RnSov1G-PKjAeW--WdCw&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=6 I recomend the Space Ball, my hamsters Muffin and Lilley love them! (there children Keigan, Logan and Chloe are too young) Anyway do all the above but instead of putting him back put him in the ball. Then sit on the floor and let him run in his ball for a max. 20 mins and return him to the cage. Make him a treat celery with peanut butter and seeds is nice and give him some cool water. Night 6- Tonights the end of hammy training if you are not planning to mate him/her. Do all of above (put in hammy ball for 10 mins) then lift him out and put him in a bath tub (no water) and get in too. Let him sniff you, pick him up and stroke him. Then give him lots of fuss and clean out his cage. So i hope that helps-Do night 5 or 6 every night so he won't forget you and soon you will have a strong bond!
