This depends on the reason why you keep the chickens and for what purpose.
Chickens raised solely for egg production are often kept in cages for both security and ease of care. Meat chickens are usually housed in large barn like structures and able to wander around. Chickens on farms are more often free range and are only placed in cages when they are ill or there is reason to think they are in danger from a predator.
As for whether it is cruel to keep the hens caged all their life, a chicken who has never know anything but a cage from the time it is hatched would not likely be very happy away from the security it has know forever. The few battery hens rescued and raised on my farm are often happy to stay inside the single cage I have inside the chicken coop but as there is no door on the front of the cage they have the option of wandering the farmyard but choose not to.
1771.08 The short answer is yes. It Depends on the city's definition of CAGED FOWL. Ordinance is intended not to prevent a person from owning pet fowl in a caged environment within residence of the owner.
Large hen, large rooster
Depending on the size of the chicken, chickens need from 2-10 sq. ft. of outside space to roam (2 ft for bantam chickens, 10 ft for large heavy breed chickens). The more space you can give them, the happier they will be, and the happier they will be will make you happier with more eggs.
They can - however, they should not be fed that.
Chickens are chickens because god made them.
free range chickens are more free to move however caged chickens are like they are I prison and can hardly move
No, never
Hanged by their feet. But only cage the Chickens when pantless to avoid dirtying the Pants.
Yes all animals can be caged but the animals hunt for there prey they should not be caged
The chickens that KFC use are not caged. The chickens used by KFC are called broilers and broilers are not raised in cages at all. They are certainly not free range either. Broiler chickens are kept in barns which are massively overcrowded, polluted with their own excrement and the chickens are pumped full of growth hormones which causes all sorts of health problems. They may as well be in cages.

Because some people thought it was too cruel to keep chickens in a small cage and wanted to give them a more natural Life.
Caged farming is raising chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, iguanas, or other small creatures in a cage for food. It is not the most humane method of animal husbandry and is generally frowned upon in the US and other civilized countries.
Would you? Probably not. And No. BIG NO.
The minimum number of chickens that should be raised together is at least two chickens . I have two chickens and they get along great!!!
Battery cows don't exist. Cows are not caged like chickens are, but corralled in a drylot or feedlot. So no, it's not illegal because there's no such thing.
It depends on the size of the cage, if it's in average size and the chicken can go inside comfortably, then for sure it'd be nice for chickens to live in of course coupled with water and food.
