I have had several cats and dogs in my 66 years and in my opinion a kitten with young puppy such as a 4 month old would be the better choice. Animals that grow up together seem to be more tolerant of each other as they grow older. The important thing is to raise them with love, respect and proper care and teach them that while they may play together being vicious with the other will not be tolerated. Animals are like children they have to be taught what is proper behavior is in your household. Animals are what you make of them if you raise them with love, caring and proper but not excessive discipline and reinforcing good behavior with rewards they will reward you as not only good pets but good citizens too.
