It is a farce to attempt to compare intelligence between species. What makes one animal more intelligent than another?

For example, would you say a dog is intelligent because it learns tricks and follows orders, or a cat is because it refuses to?

The way that we compare intelligence between humans cannot be applied to animals.

On that note, there is no denying that humans as a species are very intelligent (we have traveled space, we have complex language etc...), and the cognitive powers of the octopus is pretty impressive.
