A horse will naturally snort out its nose, especially when at work. Just this symptom does not mean the horse is or may be ill. Look for other symptoms like raspy or irregular breathing or discharge that is a yellow or green color from the nose. A higher temperature and or cough. Just a snotty nose (clear snot)is not enough to say that this horse is ill.

There are many viruses and bacterial infection that can have these symptoms. 2 of the most common are Rhinopnuemonitis and strangles. If there is a temp and the horse has had this more than 24 hours consulting your vet is a very good idea.

Sounds a bit like choke. This is where your horse has eaten too quickly or not chewed enough and food gets caught in the gullet. The horse will stand with his head held low, cough, sneeze and food and mucus will come out of his nostrils.
