A LONG time ago the philosopher Plato wanted to express his views about the ideal society. Now he didn't want to be a bore about it so he made up an interesting story about an island kingdom called atlantus. It was the first Utopian story a thousand years or so before the term was invented. To give his story a dramatic ending he had the whole island utterly and throughly destroyed by a tsunamie, buried beneath the sea. His rendition was so heart-rending that people have been using Atlantus as colourful additions to their own stories. The undersea kingdom of the mer-maids and such rot.

Werewolves have not been "discovered" since they do not exist in real life. They are fiction which means they were invented by a person with a good story to tell. They are myth and do not exist.
They are a myth
The best known myth is that raccoons wash their food. They do not. Another myth is that raccoons do not have salivary glands. They do. Another is that if a raccoon is out during the day, it has rabies. That is not necessarily true as raccoons frequently come out during the day for a variety of reasons.
