Seattle, Washington contains a large variety of plant life. Some of those native to the area are ferns, bleeding hearts, brunch berries, deer fern, Douglas aster and edible thistle. Western white pine and Pacific dogwood are two native trees.

According to the Western Guide to Plants, there is one type of birch tree native to the Pacific NW. It is found along stream banks and is smaller in size. I can't remember the specific species. Many other birch trees are from Europe and the NE.

Douglas-fir, western hemlock, western redcedar, ponderosa pine, lodgepole/shore pine, western white pine, Sitka spruce, grand fir, Pacific yew, western larch, mountain hemlock, Pacific silver fir, noble fir, subalpine fir, subalpine larch, quaking aspen, whitebark pine, Englemann spruce, Alaska yellow cedar, red alder, bigleaf maple, vine maple, Rocky Mountain (Douglas) maple, Pacific dogwood, Pacific crabapple, paper birch, bitter cherry, cascara, black cottonwood, Pacific willow, Scouler's willow, other willows (most are shrubby and don't reach tree size), Oregon white oak (Garry oak), Oregon ash, Pacific madrone, rocky mountain juniper (rare in WA), seaside juniper (rare and only found in WA), golden chinkapin (rare in WA).

Animals that are native to Washington state include killer whales, big brown bats, canyon bats, and the fox squirrel. The yellow-bellied marmot is also native to Washington state.
