plankton (zooplankton and phytoplankton) are generic terms for all the tiny floating animals and plants that you find suspended in water in lakes and the ocean. Sea monkeys on the other hand are a specific type of animal, specifically a tiny shrimp called Artemia salina. Technically sea monkeys ARE a type of plankton.
