Because mainly of the loss of their northwest forest homes.Another threat, which was not known til recently,is the more adaptable barred owl, which is a close relative of the spotted owl.The barred owl has been moving into areas vacated by the spotted owl,and may be even hybridizing with it,further eliminating pure bred spotted owls.

The Barn owl is endangered because humans have been building on the Barn owls natural hunting ground, destroying the favoured old barns and using very harmful poisons to reduce the rodent population.

The barn owl is not an endangered species. With the largest range of any bird on earth, it is listed as least concern.

The bald eagle is not endangered. It once was, mainly because toxins in the environment made their eggshells thin, and many were lost. Made a great comeback.
