It really depends on the type of fish. For bass and panfish I had great luck with some spinnerbaits this year. I fished a 5 acre lake, depth of 20 or 30 feet at most, morning and evening, not mid-day. The spinners were gold and yellow with little read feathery material on them. I also used a silver and white spinner with great sucess. One thing to remember is spinner baits from shore are a headache in the weed grass on the edge of a pond or lake. Also I fished the same fishing hole from the shore for days getting only one or two fish a day. Then I rented a canoe and caught nine fish in 3 hours. As a little extra incentive for the fish I added small chunks of Gulp brand worms to the spinner hooks (very small bits). Of course from the canoe this extra incentive was not necessary. If you have an old shoe, that may work also. Again all depending on the type of fish. If you dance on you head, though, you may not achieve good results.
