The greatest reason for extinction is the loss of habitat. Human have to stop encroaching on wild-life living space. To do that our population growth has to stop. Would be nice if the present population would come way down.

What is being done about extinction?

Most countries have laws now to protect endangered species. In some extreme cases, e.g. the panda, countries have set up entire breeding programs to ensure the survival of the species. The state of Hawai'i recently had massive areas declared conservation areas because of the threats to many unique native species.

What is the point of saving endangered species?

The point is respecting life, and the variety of life, and trying to mitigate the damage that we have done to environments and ecosystems. Just as we often feel an urge to protect children because they are unable to protect themselves, many also feel a similar urge to protect animals from harm and extinction.

What is elephant culling?

Elephant culling is when elephants are shot in order to reduce their population. At present this is done by killing the whole herd. There is some debate on this subject as their is overwhelming scientific evidence that culling is not neccessary. Man has interfered with the elephants habitate to the degree that exessive breeding has occured. By removing some of these factors nature will naturally reduce the elephant population.

How can people help to protect animal species from extinction?

People can help protect animal species from extinction by supporting conservation efforts, such as habitat preservation and restoration projects. They can also advocate for stronger environmental policies and regulations to prevent habitat destruction and illegal wildlife trade. Additionally, individuals can reduce their carbon footprint to mitigate climate change, which is a significant threat to many species around the world.
