It is not recommended to keep a wild baby shrew as a pet. Wild animals have specific dietary, environmental, and social needs that are difficult to replicate in captivity. Additionally, it may be illegal to keep wild animals as pets in certain areas. It's best to contact a local wildlife rehabilitator for assistance if you find a wild baby shrew in need of help.

What does a baby shrew eat?

Baby shrews feed on a diet of insects, worms, and other small invertebrates. They rely heavily on protein-rich food sources to support their rapid growth and development.

How to look after a pet shrew?

To care for a pet shrew, provide a secure and escape-proof enclosure with plenty of hiding places and space for burrowing. Feed them a varied diet of insects, fruits, and vegetables, and provide fresh water at all times. Shrews are very active and have high metabolisms, so ensure they have lots of enrichment and stimulation in their environment. Regularly clean their enclosure to maintain good hygiene.

What is the real name for a baby shrew?

A baby shrew is called a "shrewlet" or a "pup." They are born hairless and blind and depend on their mother for care and nourishment until they are old enough to fend for themselves.
