Parasites need a host in order to reproduce. These can for the most part be divided into two major groups:

1) Parasites that are phisiologically dependant on their host to survive but once leeching off of nutrients they can reproduce without having to hijack any of the host's systems. These cannot survive for long without being in their host, nor can they reproduce;

2) Obligatory parasites, which are things such as viruses. There isn't a consensus as to whether viruses are alive or not, but some broaden the definition of life to include them. Viruses are called obligatory parasites because they cannot reproduce without hijacking the cellular mechanism for transcribing their own viral DNA or translating their viral RNA to make more viral particals.

Only plants and animals reproduce?

While plants and animals are the main groups that reproduce, other organisms like fungi, protists, and bacteria also have methods of reproduction. These organisms have their own unique processes for generating new individuals within their respective kingdoms.

Why do biologist not classify a car as a living organism?

because it is not living, not a livin organism. I would class it as a thing, a materlier. But what does it mean to be alive? According to biologists living organisms are characterized by seven "signs of life": 1) living things have highly organized, complex structures; 2) living things maintain a chemical composition that is quite different from their surroundings; 3) living things have the capacity to take in, transform, and use energy from the environment; 4) living things can respond to stimuli; 5) living things have the capacity to reproduce themselves; 6) living things grow and develop; and 7) living things are well-suited to their environment.

Why do living things respond?

Living things respond because the normal life form has four main characteristics. Characteristics:-respond-reproduce-grow and develop-made of one or more cellsWithout responding it is no longer called a living thing.

What is is similar among all living organisms on Earth?

All living organisms on Earth use DNA as their genetic material. All living organisms use cellular metabolism to obtain and use energy. All living organisms have some form of response to external stimuli. All living organisms undergo reproduction. All living organisms are made up of one or more cells, the basic unit of life. Is a dog an organism?

Yes, a dog is an organism. Organisms are living things, and dogs are multicellular organisms that belong to the animal kingdom. They have biological systems that allow them to grow, reproduce, respond to stimuli, and maintain homeostasis.

Are Viruses able to reproduce without using other organisms?

viruses are dormant when they are not inside a living cell. that means they don't have living characteristics when outside a living cell. they only reproduce when they are inside a living cell.

Can the non-living reproduce?

No, non-living things cannot reproduce. Reproduction is a characteristic of living organisms that involves the production of offspring. Non-living things do not possess the ability to reproduce because they lack the essential biological processes and mechanisms required for reproduction.

Why is virus not a kingdom?

Virus' are not living - they cannot exist outside a living organism, and therefore cannot be classified in the same way as other organisms

Why are viruses denied a kingdom?

Virus' are not living - they cannot exist outside a living organism, and therefore cannot be classified in the same way as other organisms

Are all organisms living things?

Yes **G1N4** I thought some living things are not organisms, because they are not free living.

True or false all living thing are able to reproduce?

False. Not all living things are able to reproduce. Some organisms, like mules, are sterile and cannot produce offspring. Additionally, certain organisms, such as worker bees, are also unable to reproduce.

If something can not yet reproduce but will be able to in the future can it be considered alive?

No, something that cannot reproduce yet cannot be considered alive according to the biological definition of life. Reproduction is a fundamental characteristic of living organisms.

Organism have the potential to reproduce?

all living organisms

Why aren't cars considered organisms?

Cars are not considered organisms because they are man-made machines that do not possess the characteristics of living organisms, such as the ability to reproduce, grow, respond to stimuli, or maintain homeostasis. Organisms are living entities that have cells, undergo metabolism, and can adapt to their environment, which cars cannot do.

DO non living organisms reproduce?

No. Dead things don't reproduce. Ever. They're dead. Viruses have characteristics of both non-living and living organisms and they can reproduce inside the host cell. nope, dead things dont do anything but rot. cause they are dead

Which is the difference between bacteria and viruses that shows the bacteria are living organisms and viruses are not?

Only Bacteria can reproduce outside of a host.. Bacteria are made of cells

What are the 4 traits of living organisms?

Living organisms eat, reproduce, change over time, and create waste.
