First off, copperheads (as with all pit vipers) are not hatched, they are born in much the same way mammals are but with some variation. More on to the point; they don't change colors as they mature except for their neon tail. When they are born they have a brightly colored tail to attract prey (like frogs, toads and even small mammals). They will hold much the same coloration (maybe darker) throughout their entire lives, but after about a year the neon coloration on the tail changes to the same coloration of their entire body.
