Red blood cells contain the substance haemoglobin, which is an iron-based molecule that binds to oxygen molecules for transport around the body.

Spiders have blue blood. In human blood oxygen is bound to hemoglobin which contains iron, giving it the blood a red color. In spiders, as well as other Arthropods and Molluscs, oxygen is bound to hemocyanin which contains copper, giving its blood a blue color. The same interaction that causes oxygenated blood to color, also causes iron rust to appear reddish and the oxidized copper to appear green. However, I have noticed no color in spider blood before.
Since squids do not have haemoglobin they use haemocyanin to bind and transport oxygen throughout their body.
Your lungs refine oxygen from the other gases in air because the gases diffuse through the cell walls in the alveoli in your lungs through osmosis (higher concentration of gases in the air than in the blood, so gases move from the higher concentration to the lower concentration) where they contact the red blood cells. The hemoglobin in the red blood cells binds to the oxygen and leaves all the other gases alone. It moves on from the lungs and delivers the oxygen to the rest of the body. It's the hemoglobin that does the work.
