A red Hour Glass on its stomach, or a pair of red dots. These markings are not usually visible, though. Having a red hour glass does not necessarily mean it's a black widow, as there are some species (Steatoda) that imitate them for safety. Also, the males (which are smaller) are not harmful to humans.

All species of Spiders are arthropods, and all arthropods have bilateral symmetry. This means they have symmetry across one plane (known as the sagittal plane, and directly down the centre of their body), which means one side of their body approximately mirrors the other side.

If you don't live in Australia, it is most likely a "Northern Black Widow" which has several variations in the location and size of the red mark, usually small spots or the hourglass shape.
