This would depend on what competition is taking place

Roping - horse & rider run after cows/calves in western saddles & the rider trys to rope them
Heading/Heeling - 2 horse & rider teams try to catch a steer by roping the neck & back legs at same time
Barrel Racing - horse & rider run around 3 or 4 barrels (depending on competition location) in the fastest time w/o knocking the barrels over
Show Jumping - horse & rider have to clear a certain pattern of jumps w/o knocking any poles/jumps down the fastest
Dressage - Horse & rider have a certain pattern to perform at set gaits

They are more!!!
