Clean cage, unlimited and clean timothy hay, water. good air flow, not too cold or hot, a big cage (One pig needs 7 square feet, two needs 8, 3 needs 10, 4 needs 13 square feet, and so on.) Make sure it cannot hurt it self, one leaf of clean romaine lettuce every day. :)

if it has a baby keep it away from any male guinea pigs for it is bad to have many pregnancies at a time.keep it close to its babys and give it plenty of water lettuce or anything else it eats. don't hold it for a while because the may hurt the guinea pig. and keep the babys with their motherfor 6 weeks or over if your going to sell them.

Hopefully you don't need to do anything. The sow should take care of everything by herself. When they are dried off you should check them over and make sure everything is okay. It would help to weigh them everyday on a kitchen scale, so you can make sure they are gaining weight. The baby guinea pigs should be sexed by a week old and weened when they about 300 grams. Don't leave the males in with the females when you ween them, or you might get accidental litters. If you have a guinea pig that is expecting and is close to delivering you should monitor them closely, but do not pick them up or play with them any more than needed.

take the mother and baby to the vet to make sure they are both healthy and keep the baby warm

Don't try and interfere while the mother is ready to give birth, as this can majorly stress her out. Also, make sure there are PLENTLY of pellets and veges for the mother to eat after her recovery. Also keep her bottle full.

You should keep other animals away from the mom and babies ,and make sure they see the vet. If they don't see the vet make sure not to touch them for at least one week ,and make sure the mom is feeding them properly.

How did you prepare the cage before your guinea pig gave birth?

Well I refiled her water so she has plenty when she gave birth,I gave her fresh pellets and hay. you dont want to have lots of guinea pig bedding around the guinea pigs private area because when she opens the babys sack the bedding can sufficate the baby. And when the guinea pig gives birth keep a carefull eye on her if you are awake because if your guinea pig is giving birth to 3-5 pups they might come out right after ine another and she might not be able to open the sack so in a few the pups can sufficate.

How does your guinea pig know that your the mom?

You will know if a guinea pig loves you when you are holding it and it coos or makes little clicking sounds when you enter the room the guinea pig is in and it moves to the side of the cage closes to you making squealing or chittering sounds You know your piggy loves you when she is happy to see you, gives little squeaks when she hears you, and gives you "Piggy Kisses" When you hold her! She might nibble a bit, but to her it's affectionate, in her mind she's grooming you, not biting.

Can a guinea pig be pregnant even when they're young?

They can be pregnant but it is not fair for a baby guinea pig to have to hold up to 8 guinea pigs. There is a very high chance they will die. I had a guinea pig that was pregnant when I got her(she was 14 weeks when she had babies) and she had 2 babies and tey all survived.

How long should the guinea pig wait to get pregnant again?

A guinea pig can get pregnant again, a few hours after birth, so a guinea pig could breed tens of times in a lifetime. But there is a 20% chance a female guinea pig could die during, before or after birth, because of the stress, it has been given.

How long after a guinea pig gives birth can it get pregnant again?

Unfortunately, female guinea pigs are sexually mature about 24 hours after birth. That is why you shouldn't have the male present at the birth. He can trample the babies in his eagerness to mate with their mother. It is also not recommended to back to back breed guinea pigs, since it is cruelty to the mother.
