What do you do when a raccoon chases you?

Open the garage door and go somewhere out of sight to monitor the situation. If the door is open and the raccoon can't see you, it will eventually run back outside. Once it is out, you need to determine how it got in and fix the situation.

I just went through this believe it or not. I got the raccoon and secured it in a pet porter. I took it to my vet they gave it fluids and a shot of morphine and told me to take it immediately (so the blood supply would stay established to the bone) to the U of I school of veterinarian medicine. If they can save the leg (when I dropped off the raccoon the doctor I spoke with had just finished setting a Fox's leg) they will and give it the BEST TOP Quality veterinary care anywhere. If it can't be saved and the raccoon will lose it's leg they will put it to sleep. The down side is you don't get to know the outcome. So even if you are not from Illinois I suppose your state or a neighboring state will have a top notch University with a school of veterinary medicine students being supervised and taught by the best in the state! I almost forgot the reason why I took it to the U of I is because my veterinarian said the break was too extensive a break for them to even attempt. If taken to the U of I it as all done at no charge.

Raccoons will go out of their way to avoid human contact, they do not attack unless suffering from rabies. However, if cornered by someone wanting to capture them, they will fight viciously to avoid capture if they have no escape route.

Make sure that attics and crawl spaces of your home are well secured and pet doors locked at night. Do not leave any pet food outdoors at night and make sure trash cans are secured. A large outdoor dog will also make your house less inviting to raccoons.

A normal, healthy raccoon will not chase you unless provoked. They avoid human confrontations. An animal that is sick with rabies or distemper has brain damage and may attack unprovoked, however.

Go out and buy a combat shotgun, and don't let that raccoon know you're intimidated! Those things can smell fear...

I tried installing fences, but after a month, raccoons ruined it. Raccoons are destructive; if you want to keep them away permanently, call the critter guy services in Ontario.
