How to Teach Your Dog to Sit?

Teaching your dog to sit is both one of the most basic and most important command you can get them to obey. Getting your dog to understand the command shows it who is the boss and can be the springboard to teaching other lessons. It’s easy because all dogs sit at one time or another, unlike retrieving a ball or balancing a treat on their nose. It’s important because there will be countless times when you will need to control your dog’s behavior quickly and effectively. Here are a couple of tips that should have your dog sitting at your command in no time. Step One. Establish the connection Stand in front of your dog holding a treat that the dog can see. Say the dog’s name, followed by the command “sit”, while slowly moving the treat towards your dog’s tail. This should instinctively cause the dog’s rear end to land on the floor. The moment the dog’s rear does touch down on the ground, praise the dog with a proud “good sit” and give it the treat. Repeat this several times until the dog performs the action without the need to pass the treat over its head. Step Two. Take it on the road Throughout the day, praise the dog whenever it sits, even if you did not give it the command to so. This will equate earning praise with the action. Then, take the dog to other rooms in your house and repeat the lesson, using the treat only if necessary. Finally, take the dog out of doors and repeat the lesson. Once you see that your dog listens to you and performs the trick despite all the distractions of the outdoors, you know it has mastered the command. Use the same sit command as the basis for all future trainings, such as getting it to lie down or stay. A well-behaved and obedient dog can make owning a pet a very rewarding experience.

What do to when a dog tries to attack your dog?

Well, you should keep them in separate rooms if it gets too rough. If you want them to get along, you should probably bring them in the same room and sit on the floor, just watch them. If your small dog attacks your big dog, say something high-pitched, like "AH!" To startle it a bit. Soon your small dog will learn to leave the big dog alone.

How do you make your dog sit?

While holding a treat in one hand and holding your dog's back (so it won't jump up afterwards), slowly raise the treat until the treat is above the dog's head. (The dog will need to follow the treat with its nose.) When the treat is up high, the dog will have to sit. Then simply say 'sit'. Try this about 5-10 times and then try it without a treat. Hint: It's better and easier to train a dog to sit when it's at least a baby pup.

How do you teach my dog sit?

Having a hard time teaching your dog sit? or want some help to teach your dog sit? You MIGHT be in the right place. The first thing i did to teach my dog sit, was that i took a piece of meat and showed it to my dog. I noticed that he wanted it because he was staring at it. So, i said "SIT" and it took him awhile to sit. XD When my dog sat, I said "Good Boy" and i gave the piece of meat to him. I kept doing it until he understood what "SIT" meant. OKAY, that was my side of the story. Let me tell you what you could do. :] The first thing you should do is get a treat, or w/e your dog LOVES to eat. And try to hold the piece of food/treat up in the air, and say "SIT". In awhile, or right away, your dog should SIT. If not, try to repeat the word "SIT" over and over. (REMEMBER) Make sure the piece of food/treat is your dog's favorite). If your dog sat, say "Good Boy/Girl" and give him the piece of treat/food. Keep on repeating the same thing. When you think your dog is ready for "SIT", say "SIT" to him. If he doesn't SIT in a long time, keep on trying to give him his favorite treat or food until he understands what "SIT" means. I HOPE this helped! :O
