Sometimes hunting dogs, such as Beagles, are raised in a pack setting. Hunters come from all over in groups for fox hunts and such. When they let their dogs loose during the hunt, when getting them back together, it can be a bit troublesome. The numbers in the ear tell the hunters/ owners if they have the right dog or not.
