If the baby finch is about to fly, then the mom leaves home. We had 2 out of 6 wild baby finches fly and leave the nest last night, but that was after we fed them. Earthworms or other worms are the safest bet to feed finches ready for flight. this morning 1 more left and 1 was eaten by the neighborhood cats. There is still 1 left. I figured he was hungry so I dug up some worms for him and he ate them all. Now he cant fly because he's so full. That's a mistake on my part. 5-10-09
