it mostly depends on the bird but if it was a Duck or so, the cold weather doesn't effect them much they just need enough food just like any other bird. most ducks swim in circles inside of a lake or pond to keep it from freezing, and every once and a while the dip there heads under to feed on any spare fish, seaweed, or any other plant/food down there, most ducks aren't picky eaters.
