Chihuahua temperment varies from one chi to another. Because of their small size they can become extremely defensive. My chi is extremely loyal to me, but also loves other family members and even some close friends. You can always tell with a chi if they love you or not. Sometimes they can meet you once and decide then and there that you are their friend, others may take a little while longer. And there's also the people that they will never ever like, for whatever reasons. The thing to remember about a chihuahua is once you've made friends with them, you've made a friend for life. Most people think of them as yappy ankle biter dogs...and they are, but why? In spite of their small size, like all other dogs on earth they want to protect "their" stuff. Whether it be their families, homes or toys. When they bark it is constant and high pitched, but it warns off anyone not welcomed. Chi's are not a dog for everybody. They are special and it takes someone special to share their life with them. Having a chi is like having a child, they always want to be with you. Where you are is where they want to be.
If the Presa Canario in question is true temperment...then no. True temperment examples are very high drive and best for working applications. Generally speaking they do not make good family dogs. If the dog is a pet quality temperment falling outside of the desirable temperment range...then it may work in a family home, but even then, only with adult supervision.
