First off, not to be rude or anything... (if I come across so, then sorry dont mean to be) it is pronounced "chinchilla" and I am fairly sure that it is spelt that way. (My friend who hates me is an expert on these creatures.... hm....) and it is closely related to the gerbil, hamster, etc.
