Founder is a condition that horses develope when they have eaten too much rich food, that is food that is high in nutrients. This excess of nutrients causes deterioration of the horse's hooves and more specifically the frog. The frog is the cushion-like triangular area on the underside of the horse's hoof.
A foundered horse is a horse that has consumed too much sugar in its feed or grazing. It effects their feet and can be reconized usually as a reluctance to put weight on its hooves. The hooves may also be warm to the touch

Besides a seahorse, a horse that has foundered on grass must be kept away from grass. Green, lush grass could kill an already foundered horse. (ponies are at greater risk)
1st step: call a vet !!! well you should call the vet, but while waiting for the vet. if there is no water near by the horse , because the horse hasn't been able to walk far water should be brang to it so atleast it can get a drink. If its out in the pasture you should try to bring it back up to a stable or small paddock where it can wait for the vet.
Horses get founder by overeating for a long time (or being sevearly overweight), a sign of founder are if there neck looks like it is falling (fallen crest) if you think your horse has foundered go to the vet immediatly
Founder is common in horses. Never heard of another animal getting foundered.
horse founder (a.k.a Lamininits) is when the sensitive and insensitive laminae in the hoof begin to separate. a very painful condition that can be described as acute or chronic. it can be caused by a large intake of carbohydrates such as a large amount of grain or long lush pasture grass as well as long repeated concussion on hard surfaces such as cement or hard packed gravel.
Keeping shoes on a foundered horse may be very helpful to them. For best advice, seek the help of a qualified farrier or veterinarian.

Beg your pardon? Do you mean foundered? And why on earth would you want to force-feed a horse linseed oil? Carola www.EquineBareHoofCare.org
Hayy (I dont have any picture too show you how a horse looks when it foundered) But last Year one of my horses foundered from being over weight & you know when your horse has foundered when the time come if it comes of course. But if your horse founders, when it trys to walk it will cross the front legs over each other, and it will have a hard time walking it will have its body standing in a awkward way. & will be moving his weight around trying to stay off the legs so the pain will go away. It could also sit down and be breathing heavey, groning. And when you ask it too stand up it ,might not stand up and it will stay down for hours at a time ( These where the signs of my horse foundering ) but every horse could go though a different way. & you should call a vet straight away.
Sadly, the ship broke her back on the reef when she foundered in the storm. We would have missed a popular TV series if the SS Minnow had not fatefully foundered during a three hour tour. The committee's cause foundered when the president of the board spoke that one single word.

there can be losts Causes the horse not getting its hoofs picked out for a will or hoofs in dam areas all the time toThey founder because they do not have their hooves trimmed or taken care of properly. This is wrong!Horses founder because they are either on too much feed, or it's simply just how the horse is. Horses that have previously foundered are more likely to founder. You can remedy this by putting Epsom Salts in their feed and water or by cutting off their food supply completely. Do this by putting them in a dirt floor stock yard or any other yard the horse cannot have access to food. I know what you're thinking! This is not cruel! It benefits the horse more than harms it. Do remember to provide fresh water with Epsom Salts. Occasionally, like every 2nd or 3rd day, you can give the animal 1 biscuit of plain hay. Don't feel sorry for the horse. If you continue to feed your foundered horse, the end result will be a can of Pal. Sorry, but that's the way it is. And remember to keep trimming the feet to keep them in good order.
You don't... you wait it out, and help the horse Recover... Dont start riding your horse till the vet or farrier has said that you can start to bring it slowing back it too work. Not hard walk though ( just a short trail ride everyday. if your horse gets sore from you riding it you should stop straight away. but you have too wait till the horse has fully recovered.
