The scout's main "job" is to find new places to build their hives, if they need one. After spoting the new home, they will rush back to the original hive, informing the fellow bee's about the new area [like maybe how far away it is or in which direction it is. (they do that by "dancing.")]

When honey bees swarm, they initially settle and cluster within about 100 yards of their hive or nest for about 48 hours. During that 48 hour period, scout bees fly from the cluster to look for a permanent home for the colony. When they find somewhere that they think will make a nice new home, they return to the cluster and take other scout bees to the proposed new site. If they all agree, the swarm will then take off and they will all take up residence in their new home.
