My first instinct, is to say simply, "an abused dog." However, being ever observant of my cynicism, another possibility comes to mind. Pits are very protective of their territory, and one could say maybe it is just a dog that is really connected, thus protective, of its home. Thirdly, I land upon another issue with pits. The mystique. The reputation that their owners have concocted. Which, simply put. Is crap. They are the most sensitive, loving, affectionate, intelligent, loyal animals, not just dogs, but all animals, I have ever had the chance to spend time around. I have personally seen some absolutely horrible things done to those poor dogs, in the hope of "meanness," or to "toughen" them up. By nature, they are not mean, but, have a high level of intensity, a high threshold for pain, and the ability to focus, thus if used wrong, will achieve a high level of ability to to create damage. But, one has to ask themselves, " do guns, or people, kill people. If used with the proper intent, a gun is a useful tool. But, in the hands of an unstable person, a dangerous weapon. The gun does not know what you are using it for. Therefore, cannot be responsible for its use. A dog only knows what it is taught. If the owner is a unresposnable, idiot, then, so will the dog be. Those would be the same people that when trying to rent a house, or apartment, are refused because the "we do not accept pit bulls," comes out. Or, cannot understand why everyone in their neighborhood hates their dog, and wants it gone. But, they never connect it back to their own over inflated, stories, that they perpetuate, out of a need for attention. Well, I agree with part of that. They need some attention, alright. And, they get frustrated when they cannot "outsmart," a dog. Walk through any animal shelter, and you will get a strong sensation, that I am right................Chuck.
