  • A large cage suitable to the kind of hamster your getting
  • Bedding (for the floor of the cage) such as Megazorb, Carefresh or woodshavings (I would recommend Megazorb, its great, American version is Carefresh)
  • A bag of hamster food, pellets or museli
  • Hamster treats
  • Wooden and plastic hamster toys
  • A hamster house
  • Bedding for the hamster house (available from petshops)
  • A sturdy water bottle
  • A Heavy food bowl (so they don't knock it over)
  • (optional but very useful and fun) A playpen, very good for taming your hamster and if you need to check it
  • *Essential* A plastic hamster wheel. Any size is ok for Dwarf hamsters, but to save back injures/broken bones Syrians must have one bigger than 8". A Savic Jumbo Rolly is very very good
  • Mineral blocks can be used, but are not essential
  • Chews (hamsters teeth never stop growing, so these are essential to keep their teeth nice and short
  • A new toothbrush, to keep the hamsters (longhaired hamsters more than shortharied) fur clean
  • Hamster books

Things you do not need

  • Small animal Shampoo
  • Vitamin Supplements

Hope this has been helpful to you!

A hamster needs a cage depending on its size. If it's small get a small cage with lots of tubes. They love those. Also, get a hamster wheel and ball so they can exercise. Get hamster bedding(Don't get pine or cedar because it might make your hamster sick). Get hamster food and water tube for water. If you want to get it toys, try getting tubes, chew sticks(they need to chew to keep their teeth short), or a box tower. MOST important of all give it love and attention!

You need to get a cage with a wheel, water bottle, food dish, food, wood chips and block of wood(or something to make sure its teeth don't get to long). That's the must have stuff but if you go to the pet sore and ask one of the staff they will probably recommend other stuff too.

Can you get your hamster a friend?

Yes, hamsters don't like to be alone. If you are going to introduce a new hamster to an adult you'll need to be patient with it, young hamsters adapt better to new cage mates though. The best thing to do is to bring your hamster to the pet shop or with the breeder so you can know for sure that your hamster will like the new one and won't be aggressive towards it.

How do you convince your parents to buy a Guinea pig and one hamster?

Study hamsters and guinea pigs. and everything you need to know about them. Write down neat notes and hang them around your room. Decide which cages are good and which are bad. Tell your parents occasionally you'd love a hamster - but don't nag them. Set up a fake hamster cage with a plastic box that is the right size. Wash it as much as you need to wash a hamster cage. Pretend to change its food bowl and water as often as you need it. Then, your parents may consider it.

When i got my hamster she was really lively and loved running when you got her that is but then after a week she stared to crawl and not move much and she would sleep during her waking hour's why?

Your hamster was probably tired from all that running and now it probably needs a brake but I'm sure she will get active and everything when she gets new to her new habit.
