Paleoendemic:

refers to a species once had a widespread distribution, but now is restricted to a particular area.

For example, the kiwi is a species that had relics that were widespread in the "Gondwana continent" (Gondwana and Laurasia were the 2 former continents in the world before they split up into continents and island we have today) the survivors are now natives on an island called New Zealand.
