What is the best animal to get as a first time pet?

Besides the common dog or cat, I have found the ferret to be an excellent pet. They have a wonderful personality, they are quite humorous, quiet, very loving, but full of energy, and they will steal anything they take a fancy to and can carry away. They really are funny in their behavior and keep us laughing. Personally I prefer male ferrets. They just appear to be more engaged than the females, but that's just a personal opinion.

Note: ferrets require a lot of time and attention and are excellent pets with proper care, they are high maintenance and expensive as pets.

Rats can also be good pets, especially if you want something that is easy maintenence.

The best animal for a pet has to be, by far, a cat. Cats have so many different personalities. They can be sassy, sweet. The best part of all is that you can get them to come wherever you want them to as long as you have food with you to give them. The only thing that you need to know before you get a cat is that they are beggers, so you need to have patients and give them what they want, when they want it. I think that the best animal you could have as a pet is a dog. Dogs are very smart animals. They are given a lot less credit then they deserve. Now, don't think that i don't love cats because, i have a pin that says, I <3 CATS!

i think chickens are the best pets, they can be almost any color, and can eat almost anything people can eat. don't feed a chicken meat, bugs, fish, spicy food, greasy foods, cat food, or dog food( vegetarian dog food is ok every now and then).

Hamsters are good first pets because they are verry gentle, or guinea pigs are great too. They are cute, cuddly and gentle too. Be warned, hamsters bite, guinea pigs too, but hamsters bite much more often then guinea pigs. I'm not saying guinea pigs are better, I'm just saying treat your pet nicely. So that your first time pets won't just be your "OMG! I just got my first pet !" pet, they even might be your permanent family pet too.
