Wet food is undoubtedly the best to feed a cat with crystals or known to have a UTI in the past. You can get prescription foods that help with the acid and alkaline levels in the urine which can work. Unfortunately most of this is dry food that is packed with grains and other carbohydrates - not ideal at all.
It may be best to contact your vet to see if there are any prescription wet foods. Failing that, finding a food that is free of Corn, Wheat, Cereals, Soy and various Sugars is ideal. You can also add extra water to your cat's food so he is thoroughly hydrated.
Another way to increase water intake is to leave a tap on, or purchase a pet water fountain. Many cats are fickle when it comes to water and will only drink fresh moving water. A running tap or fountain keeps water constantly moving and fresh, and both methods are very successful in enticing a cat to drink more water.
