If they have been weaned then any cat food is suitable; some brands of cat food are designed with kittens in mind. I would advise you to avoid the cheaper cat foods as they are usually nutritionally poor quality.

Cats, no matter what age, are strict carnivores. They get all their nutritional needs from meat. Kittens in particular, need a lot of Protein and Fat in order to grow and develop in a healthy manner. Kittens should be fed small meals at regular times, and should be allowed to eat as much as they wish. Young kittens should be fed four to six meals a day, while older kittens (around 6-9 months) will be able to eat larger portions three to four times a day. Don't be surprised if you are feeding your kitten much more than you would an adult cat, this is normal and growing kittens need all the nutrients they can get.

Due to the amount of food kittens can eat, it makes sense to feed a good quality cat food. The higher the meat content, the better. The best cat foods are the ones with a very high, named-meat content. They should be labelled by source, such as: Chicken, Turkey, Rabbit, Lamb, Tuna, etc., as the first, or first two ingredients. Generally speaking, kittens will become fuller much quicker on higher quality foods, and will eat less than if on lower quality foods.

It is advisable to stay away from brands that include Corn, Wheat, Cereals, Gluten and Soy in their foods - kittens and cats have difficulty in digesting these and can cause upset stomachs (diarrhea can quickly become fatal to kittens as they dehydrate easily), and do not provide any nutritional value to the kitten whatsoever. Wet food with these specifications are much easier to find than in dry food.

Moisture is very important to cats and kittens alike. While fresh water should always be available (cow's milk should never be given as this can often cause upset stomachs), the easiest way in getting water into kittens and cats is to provide wet food as the majority of their diet. Felines have evolved to get all their needed moisture from their prey (their ancestors were cats that lived in very dry and arid environments where water was hard to come by), so therefore have a low "thirst drive" and will not often seek out water on their own.

Canned or pouched food has anywhere between 60 to 80% water. Seeing as in the wild a cat's prey is around 65%-75% water, wet food provides a cat or kitten with more than enough water each day.

Kittens should be fed kitten food for the first 12 months. Purina Kitten Chow is one that is commonly found in regular grocery stores. It is a dry food, which is good for their teeth. If you want to give them a little wet food to the side, you usually have to look in a pet store for kitten varieties. Fancy Feast makes a wet kitten food that contains a bit of kitten milk formula in the recipe.

should I feed my 9 month old kitten wet food?

I am sure I could feed my kitten wet food because wet food can help with hairballs and can be a good source of water especially because most cats don't drink a lot of water. My kitten is a Maine coon and has a ton of fur so wet food can help him digest hairballs.

Your kittens are 27days old cat you feed them kitten food?

27 days is a little young to start feeding them solid food. Your kitten starts eating kitten food whenever it feels that it is ready. You could keep a bowl of food out, and water out if you like. At this stage, kittens may begin to explore regular cat food and might want to try it, but many start around five or six weeks. I would stick with soft kitten food at first.

How many times a day should you feed your kitten?

The rule of thumb with kittens is to feed as much as they'll eat. Keep dry food out all the time and give canned food as well. Canned food is higher in calories which is better for kittens. If your kitten is thin you can mix KMR (a kitten formula)with their food or Hill prescription diet A/D food (buy it at your vet) do not leave the food out all day since bacteria will be formed on it and your kitten will suffer from diarrhea because of the bacteria, mine had that due to bacteria and diet change , and never give her canned food with preservation designed for human beings and of course a very low fat diet or no fats at all in food would be better , a kitten should be fed 3-4 times daily . good luck

How do you cook for kitten?

Kittens usually do best if you feed them a good quality commercial food, because it has everything in it that they need. If you want to cook for your kitten, make sure the food is cooked all the way through, and don't use spices or garlic in the food. They can eat chicken, liver, or fish, but remove all the bones from the chicken and fish before feeding it to your kitten.

How many scoops of food should you give your kitten?

Kittens are constantly growing and developing, so they need all the nutrients they can get. Typically, a kitten will need twice as much protein as an adult cat, so it is usually best to feed the kitten as much as it needs until it is around a year old. It really doesn't matter if you feed them just dry food or soft, as long as the food has plenty of meat in it and no cereals, grains or corn in. For young kittens, soft food will be easier for them to eat.

How often do you feed kittens?

Kittens, young ones in particular, have tiny stomachs, so the best way to feed them is "little and often". For young kittens, five or six small meals a day is ideal. As the kitten gets bigger you can start to feed it more food in each meal, and slowly reduce the number of meals. Many feed older kittens (ones that are around six to eight months old) three or four meals, as this is when growth spurts become more apparent and a kitten will need much more food at these times. It is best to feed it at set times, mainly because it is easier to monitor how much the kitten is eating, and if for some reason the kitten's appetite changes, it can be quickly dealt with.
