Your dog's nails should barely touch the ground when s/he walks. If you hear clicking noises on the floor when they walk, it's time to cut them. You should use clippers designed specifically for pets. Ask your vet or groomer for advice. Make sure the clippers are sharp and not dull. Start at the tip of the nail and cut a little at a time. Look at the cut edge of the nail. When you start to see pale pink tissue near the top of the cut edge, STOP. You can use a nail file to smooth the edges further. Avoid cutting into the quick. The quick contains nerves and blood vessels, if cut it is painful and will bleed easily. On white nails, the quick is the pink section. Be careful when cutting darker nails, as the quick is much harder to see. If the tip of the nail begins to bleed, apply pressure using styptic powder or a substitute such as baby powder. Do not wipe the blood clot off the tip of the nail once the bleeding has stopped.

∙ 14y agoit depends if your dog's nail's are clear or black...if clear then you could see the veins in it, and use nail clippers to clip the nail off without doing any harm. With black nails however you can't tell. It'd be best if you buy a special powder that'll clot the wound if you accidentally clip where a vein is. You could sprinke it, and bleeding would stop at once. The best way to clip nails is now answered! --SilverFangGin

∙ 12y agoIf your dog has whit nails you can see the red line in the inside of the nail if you dog has at least one white nail you can see how far to go but make sure to never cut past that red line it will hurt your dog and his or hers nail will bleed but if you have no indicator you can use a nail filler . I personally recommend getting your vet to do cut your dogs nails because it is ard to cut your dogs nails.

Many dogs do not like to have their feet handled. The best thing to do is to handle their feet regularly when they are puppies; that way they become used to it. If it is an older dog you can still work with it to get it more used to having it's feet handled. Just gently massage their feet once or twice a day for a minute. Over time they should become more comfortable with you handling their feet. I have heard of dogs being so freaked out about having their feet touched that they would have to be sedated in order to trim their nails but that is pretty unusual.
Yes they do. If not the nails will grow long and painfully twisted. In most cases it will also impair the way a piggie walks. Please cut your piggies' nails. also if you don't cut the nails the would curl and if he/she walked the nail would snatch off and fall with drips of blood and squeels. help your guinea pig by cutting its toenail you can just use a human nail cutter too.
It is the best way they can carry them from one place to another. Not only do dogs carry their young in this way, but a lot of other animals such as cats, mice, rabbits and many more do as well.
you chew on it with your teeth until it falls off. i no it sounds weird but pro animal caretakers do it or if you have dogs it is just the same way. Get some clippers that you use for yourself (or buy special pet ones) and clip their nails. Just be careful. When you clip your own nails don't you try to clip the white part and avoid the pink? well, same with dogs, guinea pigs, and animals in that nature. so, be careful to not cut the pink or anywhere near that. You have most likely had experience with cutting your nails too short and you know it either hurts or bugs you and it takes awhile to heal. so, be careful.
The best way to trim nails easily is to teach your dog from when it is a pup. Constantly handle the paws and do trims every 2 weeks or so. Now that she is a bratty adult, it would probably be best to take her to your Veterinarian to have her nails trimmed, no need for sedation. Or have it done by a groomer when she is groomed (the groomer is suppose to trim the nails as part of the overall grooming job). Or have someone hold her for you that knows what they are doing while you trim her nails. Muzzle her if needed with a soft piece of gauze and tie it around her muzzle then back up behind her ears.
The best way to keep a Great Dane's nails short is to take him/her to a dog groomer at least once a month. If you can't afford a dog groomer, you can purchase nail trimmers for dogs at a local department store or pet store. If you decide to trim his/her nails on your own, be careful not to cut them too short, and you should trim Great Dane nails at least once a month.
No it is not. Think of it this way... you need to trim you toe nails including fingernails. You should also trim your hair every 6 months. People may not want to trim their nails or hair, but they should. Including all of this, body trim is healthy for your body.
I got a shellac manicure 8 days ago for the first time and just trimmed my nails today. I like to trim my nails on a regular basis so I couldn't bare having them longer then I was used to. Good news - you CAN cut your nails with shellac and it's actually a good way to keep the tips looking perfect. Bad news - when your nails start to grow out you just have less polish on your nails. Overall- glad I did it. My manicure looks better and my nails are exactly the length I like to maintain.
Well this certainly depends on what the problem is, maybe your body is not getting enough oxygen, although this usually turns your nail blue. In the case of black nails, you could have fungus. Is there any other coloring going on with your nails? I could say maybe you have hit a nail, but if you have toenails and fingernails which are black then this is highly unlikely.
Gelatin is unlikely to have any effect on nails, the best way to strengthen nails is to have a good diet with plenty of calcium.
I have a short haired dog (redbone) and I love using the comb called shed ender it works great on short haired dogs. And he also loves a bath with baby shampoo lol. :)
Good luck with that. The best way is not to get any wax on the trim in the first place.
Have a piece of fleece (with your scent is the best) that you can wrap the glider up in, cover the head but don't hold too tight. When their heads are covered they feel safer so then just gently pull one leg out and trim the nails. Take your time and if the glider pulls away let it! Remember there bones are so tiny they can easily break or be hurt
Sometimes because of stress, fatigue, or depression. Sometimes you bite your nails when you don't want to do something. It is very hard to stop, so it is best if you keep something little in your hands like a ball to keep your hands out of your mouth.

There is a lot to know about dogs! The best way to learn about them is talk to a vet. Goodbye!
