In general, the human vertebral column has a soft S shape. The cat's vertebral column, on the other hand, is a soft C shape. That is to say, a cat's vertebral column curves once whereas the human's curves twice, in opposite directions.

Why is a human a vertebrate?

because we have a backbonesimply because they have a back bone and also possess a vertebral column

Why is the human vertebral column made of a series of bones instead of one long one?

Its for the flexibility of the spine. Without it, we wouldn't be able to move as we do. The same rule applies to the bones of the hands and feet.

What is the trunk of body?

The Trunk Muscles include, 1) those that move the vertebral column ( most of which are posterior antigravity muscles); 2) anterior thorax muscles, which move the ribs, head and arms; 3) muscles of the abdominal wall, which help move the vertebral column and most importantly form the muscular natural girdle of the abdominal wall.

What bones make up the skeleton of the trunk?

The axial skeleton is the part of the human skeleton that consists of bones of the head and trunk. It consists of 80 bones and is split into 8 different parts. Some are the skull bones, the ossicles of the middle ear, the hyoid bone, the rib cage, the sternum, and the vertebral column.

How many bones does a duck have?

There are 120 bones in a chicken (206 in a human) and the breast bone is the largest bone. Though the types of bone are the same as in a human, there are fewer bones in the vertebral column and the ribcage, and the wrist/hand and ankle/foot bones are fewer and different in placement and length. There are 120 bones in a chicken (206 in a human) and the breast bone is the largest bone. What is the difference in articulation between the skull and the vertebral column of a rat and a human?

The articulations of the human skull and vertebral column consist of a series of amphiarthrodial joints between the vertebral bodies, and a series of diathrodial joints between the vertebral arches. The articulations of the rat skull and vertebral column consist of cervical vertebrae which have small, transverse processes containing a hole through which nerves and blood vessels pass.

How does the human vertebral column differ from that of the cat and monkey?

Vertebral column is also known as spinal column or backbone as it keeps the spinal cord protected. As cat and monkeys are also mammals, they share a common type of vertebral column as of human. However; the anatomy of the three is different hence the use of vertebral column also differs in them.

What is the difference between spinal column and vertebral column?

because during the growth of human beings the vertebral column outgrows the spinal chord. that's why we don't find the spinal cord starting from lower lumbar region where lumbar puncture is done.
