What is a good pet for kids?

It depends on the type of reptile and the person caring for it. For the inexperienced reptile enthusiast I would suggest a leopard gecko. Leos are low maintenence, friendly, easy to handle, they poop in one spot ALL THE TIME and they don't require uv lights being nocturnal. As with any reptile I would suggest a calcium supplement to dust crickets with at least every other feeding so your new pet doesn't develop the dreaded MBD (metabolic bone disease). As with any pet beofre purchasing please consider the animals well being if you feel you cannot provide the heat source(the tank needs a temperature gradient), housing and varied food supply (they eat crickets, meal worms wax worms, sometimes pinky mice but rarely they are really high in fat) please do not put the animal at risk.---- No.* They are nidifugous and not social, they hate being touched; * need lot of cares (UV lights, food with calcium and vitamines, temperature and humidity control); * can transmit salmonellosis with their feces; * do not regognize friends and can bite and scratch. ---- It is not true that they are not friendly an unsocial, like any other pet they do recognize people and their owner, certain lizards need uv not all of them, many animals can transmit salmonilla with feces, clean tanks make happy homes(think of all the diseases we could transmit if we lived in poop!) probably not, a lizard requires a lot of care and responsibility, unless you are planning on supervising care, it is not a good idea, a better choice would be a small animal like gerbil or hamster
