Some mammals live in herds and packs as a means of survival, herd and pack animals are that way because of their deep rooted instincts.

They have higher numbers, which gives them a better chance at reproducing, hunting, alerting each other of danger, navigating, teaching their younger members valuable lessons, making sure their species survives, and most all herd animals are social animals, they do rely on others for companionship.
