The most gentle breeds are considered to be Orpingtons, Faverolles, Sussex, and Cochins.
However, Australorp, Barred Hollands, Cubalayas, true Ameraucanas, and Brahmas are very docile as well.
But then, you must consider that every chicken is an individual. You could have a pen full of the same breed, but some will be more gentle and friendly than others.
There are a few breeds of chicken that are tame/docile. The first breed that comes to mind is Silkie. As the name suggests they are very soft and fluffy and they are quite tame. They are also available as a bantam or bantie chicken which means they are a smaller chicken and will need less feed. The only set back is their eggs are tiny and you would need 2 or 3 to make a normal sized one.
Another breed is Americana/Araucana or even the Easter Egger chicken. They are very tame and can be bantam or full sized. As their more common name (Easter Egger) suggests, they lay colored eggs. From blue to green to pink and any color in between. Their eggs are about medium/large sized eggs. There are many more good breeds that are tame but these are the 2 that stand out in my mind the most. Remember though, the best way to ensure a chicken is tame is to raise it from birth and be near it as much as you can. Also hens or pullets (hen less than a year old) tend to be more tame than a rooster or cockerel (rooster under a year old). But that is NOT always the case. Roosters can be just as tame as their female counterparts.
buff orington are the friendliest chicken there so calm and patient i had one wasnt even scared of me like the others and it lays a lot of eggs

A pure breed chicken is a chicken that has been made by the same kind of chicken, so if 2 different kinds of chicken's mate, then they wont make a pure breed chicken, but if 2 of the same kind of chicken mate then they make a pure breed chicken Sorry if it doesnt make sense

Most draft horse breeds fit the bill of 'gentle giants'. However each horse will have it's own individual personality and quirks, which can be adjusted with training to a certain degree. Just because a breed is listed a gentle or calm does not mean that all horses of that breed are that way.

Depends on the breed of the chicken
A purebred chicken contains a lineage of the same breed, say all Barred Rocks, with no other chicken breed in their parentage. A mixed breed chicken is like a mutt- it has at least 2 different breeds in its lineage and shows qualities of both breeds.

The colour. Chickens come in all sorts of breeds and colours. In most cases, you cannot tell what the breed is just by colour. You need several breed identifier "markers" to tell what breed it is other than just colour.
