The near side is the horse's left side. The off side is the right side.
In the horse world, almost everything is done from the near (left) side of the horse.
The off side of the horse is it's right side, the near side is it's left side (the side that
the rider stands on to mount).
For Horse Isle: The right side of a horse is also known as it's _____ side. Answer: off
It is called its near side.
Riding a horse can be compared to riding a bike. if you do not have balance, you can throw the horse (or bike) off balance and/or slide off to one side.
You tighten it from the near side (the left side). Everything at horse riding is done at the near side, mounting up, putting on the saddle, putting on the bridle and leading your horse. The only thing that isn't at the near side is your horse's mane. That goes to the off side (the right side). Hope this helped! :)
Yes! Even though it is said that you can only get on a horse from the near side (left side), my old man told me it is best if you train your horse to get on and off from both sides. He told me, "This is because if you were to fall off your horse and you had a broken your leg or something, and it just happens to be that you can't get on from the near side, you may stay there in pain until somebody finds you if your lucky enough if your horse wont allow you to get on from the other side." If this occurs, don't get a short tension span with the horse if he/she wont let you on... this may just be your fault for not training them to allow you to get on from both sides. Yes, you can get on from the near side if you want, but i suggest that you get on from the opposite side every now and then.
