It is definitely not 408 million... The total number of amphibian species is currently 6,974 (AmphibiaWeb last updated May 24, 2012) and of that there are currently 6160 tailess amphibians (anurans) so by far the most successful group compared to caecillians and salamanders :) hope that helps.

Not all amphibians are tail-less. In fact, all amphibians start out as tadpoles which have tails. Some amphibians, such as frogs and toads lose their tails when they become adults. Other amphibians, such as newts and salamanders, do not lose their tails.
