The breastplate is normally in a trailor for your horse. The breatplate simply keeps your horse in its slot, so it cannot wander around the whole trailor. In case you stop short, the horse is safe and won't go any where. It's basically to keep your horse safe and comfortable. theres also the breastplate tack. it keeps your saddle from slidding around and can be a savior when you are doing cross country. if your girth were to break or come undone, it gives the rider time to dismount and fix it. you can also put 2 attachments on the breastplate. a standing attachment, or a running attachment. the running attachment adds leverage through the reins to the bit on the bars of the horse's mouth when it raises its head to a certain point. the leverage encourages the horse to lower its head. it provides more freedom than a standing attachment. the standing attachment connects to the noseband of the bridle. this attachment is legal for show hunter and hunt seat over fences. its also popular in fox hunting and polo. its also seen on military horses partly for style and tradition but also in case of an emergency that the rider has to handle the horse in an abrupt manner. standing attachments are not legal in flat classes though
my horse is a throughbred x racehorse, and his saddle slips back ever so slighlty, we have had it measured and it fits fine and they said get a breastplate martingale cause the next size saddle is just way to small... he is a 17.2 throughbred. please answer before XMAS! thankyou :D
it is to keep a horse's mouth shut so it cant evade the bit
To either wake the horse up, if it's being lazy, or to urge it forward. They are not meant to be used to jab the horse's sides, but to be gently applied with as little pressure as possible. They should only be used by a experienced rider, and a well-trained horse.
I'd say bell boots .
There are several products designed for this purpose. Mosquito Dunks are super easy to use.
The basic harness item your horse should have is a breastplate or standing martingale

I use my breast plate for looks in the show ring, but it can be used to help keep the saddle from sliding backwards when the horse is moving. I use it on my horse that has almost no withers to prevent the saddle from sliding too far to the side.
The purpose of using a horse float is to clean a horse's teeth. It is a part of dentistry for the animal and it is very necessary to be done for its health.
