It filters the water out. Basically the 'breath in' water and take the oxygen from it and the water filters out through the gills

∙ 13y agoSurprisingly, fish breathe air. Only difference is, they extract the air from the water. The Gills let them do that, so yes they let them breathe.
Wiki User
∙ 13y agoThe main function of gills is to extract oxygen from water and thus enabling fish to 'breath'.
Wiki User
∙ 13y agoFish use gill to breath, they do this by taking in the oxygen from the water and then using it for respiration.

∙ 13y agoGills are just like LUNGS for them they take oxygen from water through gills. They are part of there respiratory system.

Yes, Siamese fighting fish, like all other fish, have gills. Gills are respiratory organs that allow fish to extract oxygen from water and release carbon dioxide.
Fish breathe using their gills. Gills are respiratory organs that extract oxygen from the water and release carbon dioxide. Water passes through the fish's mouth and flows over the gills, allowing the fish to absorb oxygen from the water.
Water flowing across the gills of fish is necessary for gas exchange to occur. This process allows the fish to extract oxygen from the water and release carbon dioxide. A continuous flow of water ensures a constant supply of oxygen for the fish to breathe.
A fish typically has two gills, one on each side of its head. These gills are responsible for extracting oxygen from water that the fish swims through, allowing it to breathe.
Fish gills are specialized for extracting oxygen from water, which is more dense and contains less oxygen than air. In air, the gills collapse and cannot effectively extract oxygen. Fish need water flowing over their gills to provide the necessary pressure and oxygen concentration for proper respiration.
GillsThe gills perform the same function.
Fish gills are not suitable for air ventilation because, gills cannot function without water flowing through them. Gills are especially evolved and are an adaption of fish to breath under water.
Because your Pharynx arch is still perforated to function as gills.
to protect the gills
Gills allow shrimp and fish extract oxygen from the water - therefore they can breath under water.
