They think "oh look at that pretty bird" or "what is that bird doing in my territory?" In other words, they don't recognize that the 'other bird' is them. They think it is just that: another bird.
On the safari, the bird will come into the scene at the upper left side, then leave again. If you don't see him, close out the photo session and try again.
