A chicken's diet includes:

-Usually Farmer feeds:corn, vegetables (perhaps leftovers) and wheat.

-Chickens in the wild feed on: Insects like grasshoppers; worms, seeds, and sometimes littered food.

Chickens eat about two cups of food a day. *****Don't forget that if kept in enclosures or small backyards, they must also have access to grit. Not to digest but to help digest grains. Best as a beginner, to ask for a complete mix from a feed shop, that has the grit included unless you envision a large commercial enterprise. ****Also, may I suggest people contribute to what is poisonous to hens, to try to lessen sad, unnecessary losses. First warning: NO MANDARINES
