Originally it was because of "survival of the fittest", as animals less-suited to their environment died out. Now it is because of man destroying their habitats, polluting, poaching, etc.

Loss of habitat. People remove the plants and put up buildings and roads. When a person decides that it's more important to have construction. instead of natural habitat, wildlife loses.
