MRS GREN serves as an acronym to help students remember the seven shared activities of all living things.
Movement, Reproduction, Sensitivity, Growth, Respiration, Excretion, Nutrition
1 they gather nutrients
2 they both grow
3 they both have cells
4 have a structure
5 they can both think
6 they both provide food for others
7 they can both reproduce
The characteristics are reproduction, excretion, irritability, respiration, adaptation and evolution, movement, death although there are a lot more
Alternate Answer:
Here are some actual characteristics of Life: Perception and the Ability to Communicate, Ability to make decisions, Location, Uses Energy, Dependence on Matter, Dependence on a previous Living Form. Receives and emits Emotion or Affinity. Self-Determinism. A living thing has a purpose - its own purpose.
My dog has been spade. It is not dead and does not share death with other living things. It does not share reproduction either. It is not evolving either. What 'movement' does a lichen do? What 'irritability' has been observed in lichen? What 'adaptation' has been observed in the individual life of a lichen? 'Respiration', if I hold my breath am I not living? If I do not excrete for while, am I not alive all of that while? I believe an alternate answer is needed.
Movement Respiration Sensitivity Growth Reproduction Excretion Nutrition Can be remebered using the acronym MRS GREN
plants and animals are both living things.
Because they share a common ancestor they split off from.
The more derived characteristics organisms share, the greater their degree a kinship. For instance,a derived characteristic in plants is the presence of the vascular tissue.Although all organisms share similar traits.
Water and rocks (these aren't the only ones, however). Also there is somemore just not them.
They reproduce by mitosisThis is the six characteristics of living things:Grow and Develop - when one cell or many celled organisms get bigger or increase the number of cells. Organisms may pass through different stages.Have Cells - In a single-celled organism, one cell carries out all life processes. In a many-celled organism, there are specialized cells that do one or more life processes. Cells are the smallest unit that can perform life processes. They are covered by a membrane, have DNA, and have cytoplasm.DNA - Cells contain DNA which controls the structure and function of cells. Heredity is the passing of genetic traits from parents to offspringUse Energy - living things need energy to carry out activities of life like making food, breaking down food, and moving materials in and out of cells.Sexual or Asexual Reproduction - New organisms come from existing organisms. Sexual reproduction is when two parents produce offspring tha share characteristic of both parents (see heredity). Asexual reproduction is when one parent produces offspring that are exactly like the parent.Sense and Respond to Change - ability to sense or pick up on changes in the environment and to react in an appropriate way. Stimulus is anything that affects the activety of the organism or causes a reaction or change in an organism or any part of an organism. Response is what an organism does or how an organism behaves because of a stimulus.I think these would be more helpful:Nutrition - all activities in which an organism obtains food from environment and breaks it down into a form that can be absorbed and used in cellsTransport - absorption and distribution of essential materials throughout the organismRespiration - release of energy from food by a complex series of chemical reactionsSynthesis and Assimilation - (synthesis) simple substances are combined chemically to form more complex substances (assimilation) process in which nutrition is incorporated nto the bodyGrowth - increase in size of an organismExcretion - process in which waste of metabolism are removed from an organismRegulation - coordinated activities that serve to maintain internal stabilityReproduction - process by which organisms give rise to offspring (of the same kind)The seven characteristics of living things are:MovementRespirationSensitivityCirculationGrowthReproductionExcretionNutrition•Living things are made of cells.•Living things obtain and use energy.•Living things grow and develop.•Living things reproduce.•Living things respond to their environment.•Living things adapt to their environment.•Living thing make waste.•Living thing have DNA.•Living thing use water.•Living thing use air.
Living things share all of the following characteristics except _____.
Yes, DNA is a characteristic that all living things share. To be more precise, all living things share a form of genetic material, which is DNA.
no because a because some of the thing cant reproduce.
The seven characteristics that all living things share are: 1. Order 2. Regulation 3. Growth and Development 4. Energy Processing 5. Response to the Environment 6. Reproduction 7. Evolutionary Adaptation
there fagets
the air
movement
The seven characteristis are: -having cells -sensitivity -homeostasis -adaptation -growth -reproduction -metabolism Out of these, both gnats and grass can have any of the seven characteristics since they are living.
Scientists classify living things because then it's easier to share information, study, & discuss these living things.
carbon
All living things share a common ancestry.
