This is what i know what to feed a horse.

You can feed it obviously grass,

there is hay, carrots, apples , turnips , oats, salt licks , sugar cubes.

Apples can cause colic, so don't feed them to many. I also have more info for you to know about horses. Now i hope you know that i have learned this and gone over it a lot of times for about a month.

You never let a horse in a wet muddy paddock.You need to give it fresh food and water everyday and every night. Horses should go in a stable some times (you should put it in there when it is raining or to hot).

You can leave your horse out when it is misting and warm out side(but not to warm). I would recommend that you keep you horse in when it is cold, down pouring,or burning hot out.

Well It depends........ I feed my horse 2 flakes of hay and 2 lbs of Bermuda blend pellets 2 times a day. Everyone has a different opinion on feeding but if you have a horse that is sensitive to alfalfa or oats or anything high sugar you should change to something less like pure grass hay or anything along that line.

California Trace is supposed to be an excellent product which is specificlly tailored to California but would probably go a long way to getting into balance wherever you live.

Well it depends what kind of horse u have. If you have a horse with laminitis then buy some happy hoof oats. If it is a race horse get the brand eccles racing bags oats or if it's like my pony simply feed it hay or haylage with occasional treats.

In an ideal situation, you would have several acres of land with many different types of grasses,(not rich grasses, this can cause founder) because horses will roam the pasture and find the grasses that contain the nutrients they need.

If you have a horse with laminitis there are several feeds that will help your horse. If it is a race horse there are other feeds designed for race horses. If it is some other special horse, you could probably find something for it too. There are several feeds that have all the nutrients most horses need, but the best thing to do would get a profesional to look at your horse and his/her diet and tell you what he/she needs.

So, to sum this up, a pasture with several different kinds of grass would be best, but if this is not possible, then free-choice grass hay along with some supplements should be OK.
