Baby sulcatas should not eat any kind of lettuce; even though it is recommended by pet stores, it lacks almost all of the vitamins for these grassland tortoises, and even Romaine is a malefactor in the long run. I feed my tortoise a daily diet of as much as he will eat of Bok Choy, Collard Greens, Kale, Spinach (oxylates do not actually inhibit vitamin D), and Bermuda grass (NO PESTICIDES). All of these are available at your local grocer. However, in addition to proper diet, tortoises must have a means of synthesizing the vitamins in their diet. This is why a quality UVA/UVB bulb (anything good will cost $40 +). I recommend a 100 watt Powersun bulb (by Zoo Med). These are available at the best price at drsfosterandsmith.com (Petsmart and other chains pet stores overcharge a lot). Keep your tortoise inside for the first two years of its life. Then move it outside in spring, summer, and fall where the sun will take care of UV. You must change this bulb every year regardless of if it still lights up. Hope this helps!
the tortoise eat pegeounus
Yes, as long as they are not treated with any sort of toxins, like pesticide or fungicide, the tortoise can eat them.
hi a diet of a tortoise beetle is sweet potatos and the larve eat foliage. from mahalia
The tortoises diet depends on it's species. As they are slow, they have adapted to the resources available in a small geographic region. A tropical tortoise can eat a small amount of fruit, where a desert tortoise would not. Tortoises in general eat weeds.
yes they do you don't waste your time asking stupid questions!
It depends how large the Sul is and the hermit usually yes but you should in mind that hermits need sponges and there own hideout plus the food. The thing is that the hermits food is meat and meals and that is not good for the Sulcata. Also Hermits Need A few shells and a climbing area. So yeah the do make a good mate for the sulcata Tortoise. Any other of the tort species will most likely eat it. I have a Sulcata Tort Named Gordan and he has a hermit crab with him. Doing fine! -Matthew
That depends upon the species of Tortoise (Turtle?). Some are vegetarian and others are carnivores.
No. They eat all they can before hibernation. Unless they can sleep-eat.
Call a vet or maybe try different greens.
It does not eat.
the tortoise eat pegeounus
Reptiles (like most animals) sleep when THEY need to - there is no set time. In the wild, they'd eat then rest in short bursts.
